赤ずきんちゃん
Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a very cute little girl.
むかしむかし。ある村に、かわいらしい女の子がいました。
She loved her bright red hood, and everyone simply called her “Little Red Riding Hood.”
その子は赤いずきんがお気に入りで、みんなから「赤ずきんちゃん」と呼ばれていました。
One day, her mother called out to her.
ある日、お母さんが赤ずきんちゃんに言いました。
“Little Red Riding Hood, your grandmother is ill.
Please take this bread and wine to her.
And remember—do not leave the path.”
「赤ずきんちゃん。おばあさんが病気なの。
このパンとワインを届けてあげてちょうだい。
そして、道から絶対に外れないのよ。」
“Yes, Mother!”
「はい、お母さん！」
Little Red Riding Hood began walking through the forest.
Suddenly, a big wolf appeared before her.
赤ずきんちゃんは森の道を歩き始めました。すると、大きなオオカミが姿をあらわしました。
“Hello there, Little Red Riding Hood.
Where are you going?”
「こんにちは、赤ずきんちゃん。どこへ行くんだい？」
Not knowing how dangerous he was, she answered honestly.
赤ずきんちゃんは危険を知らず、素直に答えました。
“I’m taking bread and wine to my sick grandmother.”
「病気のおばあさんにパンとワインを届けに行くの。」
The wolf grinned slyly.
オオカミはにやりと笑い、言いました。
“In that case, she’d love some flowers too.”
「それなら、お花を摘んでいくと喜ばれるよ。」
Excited, Little Red Riding Hood forgot her mother’s warning
and wandered off the path.
赤ずきんちゃんは夢中になり、お母さんの言いつけを忘れて道をはずれてしまいました。
Meanwhile, the wolf hurried straight to Grandmother’s house.
その間にオオカミは、おばあさんの家へ急ぎました。
“Grandmother, it’s Little Red Riding Hood. May I come in?”
「おばあさん、赤ずきんちゃんです。入ってもいいですか？」
The wolf swallowed the grandmother whole,
put on her clothes, and lay in her bed.
家に入ると、オオカミはおばあさんを丸のみし、服を着てベッドに入りました。
Soon after, Little Red Riding Hood arrived.
しばらくして、赤ずきんちゃんが家にやってきました。
“Grandmother, hello!”
「おばあさん、こんにちは！」
A strangely low voice answered from the bed.
ベッドから、不思議に低い声が返ってきます。
“Oh, Little Red Riding Hood… come in.”
「おや、赤ずきんちゃん。入りなさい。」
Puzzled, she stepped closer.
赤ずきんちゃんは、ふしぎに思いながら近づきました。
“Grandmother… why are your ears so big?”
「おばあさん……どうしてそんなに耳が大きいの？」
“To hear you better, my dear.”
「お前の声をよく聞くためだよ。」
“Why are your eyes so big?”
「どうしてそんなに目が大きいの？」
“To see you better.”
「お前をよく見るためだよ。」
“Why is your mouth so big?”
「どうしてそんなに口が大きいの？」
The wolf roared,
“To eat you better!”
Just as the wolf leapt at her,
a hunter who was passing by rushed inside.
オオカミが飛びかかった瞬間──近くを通っていた猟師が駆け込んできました。
He cut open the wolf’s belly
and rescued both Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother.
猟師はオオカミのおなかを切り開き、赤ずきんちゃんとおばあさんを助け出しました。
Shivering, Little Red Riding Hood whispered:
震えながら赤ずきんちゃんは言いました。
“I will never leave the path again…”
「もう二度と道を外れません……。」
From that day on, she always obeyed her mother.
それ以来、彼女はお母さんの言いつけをしっかり守るようになりました。
